Doug passed away surrounded by family at the Niagara Regional Hospital on the evening of 14 April.  Arrangements for his interment in the National Military Cemetery are being made by Doug’s son James and will be announced later.
Major Doug Eaton served in The Royal Canadian Regiment from 1974 until he retired in 1997.
Previously he had served as an officer in the Toronto Scottish Regiment before being transferred to the Regular Force and posted to 3rd Battalion.
He served in a number of extra regimental appointments, with the Canadian Airborne Regiment, and on operations with the UN in Central America before retiring to take a position with the Irvin Parachute Company that led him on a path into a number of defence-related entrepreneurial adventures. While serving with Base Operations  at CFB Borden, Doug was awarded the Chief of Defence Staff Commendation for his leadership in recovery operations following the tornado that struck the area in 1985.  Doug and his wife Mylene had returned to the Niagara Peninsula in late Fall 2016 when Doug collapsed from complications with liver disease that turned out to be inoperable.
