Colonel Ray Corby joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 2001 under the Regular Officer Training Plan while attending the University of Waterloo. He spent three years training with the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada while completing his B.A. in Political Science and History, and also spent close to one year with the Princess Louis Fusiliers in Halifax while completing his Infantry Officer training. 

Upon completion of his training in 2005, Colonel Corby was posted to the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment (1RCR) as a Rifle Platoon Commander.  During his four years at 1 RCR he deployed to Afghanistan twice, first at the rank of Lieutenant as a Duty Officer and Platoon Commander on Task Force 3-06 to Kandahar, and again at the rank of Captain as an Advisor to the Afghan National Army as a member of Task Force 3-08. Upon his return from Kandahar Colonel Corby was posted to Quantico to attend the United States Marine Corps’ Expeditionary Warfare School. Following Quantico, he was posted to the Infantry School from 2010 to 2012 as an instructor and then as Adjutant to the Commanding Officer.

In 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Major, and was posted back to 1 RCR where he had the privilege of commanding three different companies during his three years back at the Regiment. In 2015, he was deployed as a Liaison Officer to the United States Army Europe under Operation REASSURANCE. Following his return from Europe, Colonel Corby completed the Joint Command and Staff Programme at the Canadian Forces Staff College and was subsequently posted to Army Headquarters as a staff officer, first as G33 International Operations, and upon promotion to Lieutenant-Colonel he was placed in charge of Soldier Systems for the Director of Land Requirements. Colonel Corby had the honour of commanding the Canadian Army’s Infantry School in Gagetown, New Brunswick from 2021 to 2023. Upon posting back to Ottawa, Colonel Corby worked as the Army’s senior career manager within Director of Military Careers. Upon promotion to his current rank in 2024, Colonel Corby was appointed the Director of the Leadership Support Team within Chief of Professional Conduct and Culture, responsible for working with units to strengthen their culture and resilience. 

Colonel Corby holds masters degrees in Public Administration as well as Defence Studies. Colonel Corby and his wife Amber have two daughters, Evangeline and Madeleine. Among their hobbies they avidly enjoy downhill skiing, mountain biking, and camping.
